One of my favorite painters is Mark Rothko, because he was after something very simple. He wanted to capture human emotion. He wasn’t necessarily after abstraction just emotion. Enjoy this BBC documentary on the man and maybe you’ll get at why I love his work so much. Also if ever in D.C. stop by the National Art Gallery where there are 15ft Rothko’s in the basement level of the modern wing. You’ll find it hard to stand after walking in to a room full with Rothko.
Some people have been talking about friendfeed as way to keep up with all their web 2.0 goodies from the same place. I however received an invite to Socialthing!. It is much nicer and a beautiful interface and a great mobile iphone edition. If it only had a twitteriffic type application that went along with it, it would be perfect.
I have a few invites left to Socialthing! so if you’d like one follow me on twitter or pownce and send me a note. Links in the sidebar.
Just returned from a touring performance of Avenue Q. It’s a fabulously funny musical with puppets. A little bit vulgar, a little bit cute, a little bit sad, and a bit much of the true. The performance was spot on, yet there was still one of those little moments where something went wrong. A sign didn’t come down in front of the building during the end but the players worked right through it without a problem. True professionalism. Below is the opening number, if the company is coming to your town please check it out. Enjoy!
For those not in the know Magibon is a rather strange youtube starlette. She makes short videos usually of absolutely nothing. I truly mean nothing. She stares at the camera and maybe flashes the peace sign before the video ends in this pseudo japanese girl kind of way. She speaks japanese but is an american however and it was thought the whole thing was a viral campaign for a j-horror film but its just a girl turning japanese on youtube. Watch the video below and you’ll immediately say…”Thats it?” Then you’ll watch the next ten of her videos. I half expect to need to buy something or quite smoking after watching them.
When in a group of people at a restaurant, there is always one person who will ask what someone else is getting. This could be for a couple of reasons. The most popular being that they do not want to order something that someone else is going to order. This one always seems absurd to me. As if originality in ordering had anything to do with character. Besides, most mainstream restaurants all have the same 12 dishes, its bound to repetition at some point. This fear of ordering the same dish as someone else seems illogical
There are also those who are just horridly indecisive and maybe other opinions will allow for their own choice to be made. This one is the most interesting I think, in that your answer is more of a timeline gauge, than a genuine interest in the the surrounding palettes. For if you have decided and they haven’t, it’s time to simply go with the chicken sandwich as long as no one has already decided on that. However these are usually the same people who “need another minute”.
In certain restaurants i have a favorite but in other i like to really be diverse in ordering. So when the question falls to me I like to say I haven’t decided, whether I have or not. Moreover I like to not commit to a single dish and keep myself guessing as to what I will get until the waiter shows up. So that when I finally get asked by a person that is interested, I’m pretty much just guessing.
I remember when this happened last year and I was absolutely floored when I saw it. I have such a soft spot for someone who is so unassuming like Paul, whom walks into that theater and just kills . People shedding tears and applauding. The very idea that a minutes worth of singing can affect people like that is so beautiful that when I came across the clip again on youtube today, I felt the need to post it in hopes someone might discover it anew. I find it hard not to shed a tear when I watch this myself.
I recently got back onto twitter. At first I thought it was stupid and a waste of time but recently I decided to give it a second chance. What really sold me on it was twitteriffic which is an awesome app for osx. It’s fun and you get strange things popping up on your desktop throughout the day. Not long after rejoining twitter I ran into ColorWars which is this odd game for twitter users created by Ze Frank. Being a huge fan of The Show with Ze Frank I decided to give it a whirl and joined Team CMYK. No real reason why, just thought it was interesting. I’m a little late to the game but oh well. This current challenge is a nerd rap battle. I thought this would be fun so I spent about 45 minutes tonight writing and practicing my little 1 minute nerd rap. If your on twitter please follow me and CMYK.
Ah mixtapes how I miss them. Here is one from me. Feel free to make me a mixtape, with something old and something new. Something I said or that we did that reminds me of you. Make me a mixtape that makes me yours, don’t leave out Husker Du. Put something on that The Cars did in 1982.
