Quiet Please

July 23rd, 2010 by J. Celestino

I tend not to speak much anymore.  I used to be much more animated and lively, etc.  Recently there is little to be lively about that I tend not to speak.  I’m not mute but muted.  I hope this ends soon.  I’m considering an idea to force myself to speak daily.  Maybe this will help.  Maybe the conversation with the air will lead to less forced vocabulary.  More on this project soon.

Pencey Prep

January 28th, 2010 by J. Celestino

I heard the news and stared blankly at my computer. People asked me if I was ok, I told them he died.  When they didn’t know who he was I could do little with my vision.  Suddenly the figures asking me questions evaporated like funny smells in the winter cold.  I closed my eyes and tasted salt for a second and continued working.

I kept typing and those figures walked off.  I kept typing and wondered if the figures would appear again.  I kept typing.

Dear he, Thank you.

Art Supplies

September 25th, 2009 by J. Celestino

41V1LRpGMQL._SL500_AA280_I’ve recently spent some time and money getting some new art supplies. Since the new album is almost done there will be a void in creativity. I’m going to fill it up with painting for the time being.

I’ll be attending some of the sketch sessions at the Scarab Club over the next couple of weeks. I’ll post pictures of the sessions and my work as it develops. I’m moving toward oil sticks for some reason, we’ll see how it turns out.

The Discount Hipster

August 19th, 2009 by J. Celestino

Picture 1I was recently invited to the Gilt website, which is a glorious discount hipster/style haven. Catering to both Men and Women, however the Woman’s section is much larger. Nonetheless the selections are amazing and while the prices aren’t bargain store they are drastically reduced. There is a strange mechanic to the site however. Because there are limited quantities of each item should you put something in your cart you end up reserving it. So you have a little time to checkout before it goes back on the rack. It’s kind of like carrying something around the store just to make sure no one else gets their hands on it. So you may end up adding something that isn’t available but the site will let you know if someone decides not to purchase it and one suddenly becomes available. I’m on the wait list for a scarf since fall is around the corner.

You must be a member to shop there but I have a few invites available. Just click the link below and enjoy!

f-stop

July 31st, 2009 by J. Celestino

I decided to take a classic photography class this September. I’m now faced with a dilemma. I need a manual film camera. Being the person that I am, I began researching cameras. I’m really interested in a Zorki 4, which is this Russian Leica knock off. It has an interesting history but I’m a little leery of buying one from ebay since they all seem to come from the Ukraine.

I’ll post photos to flickr throughout the term.

Painting

February 25th, 2009 by J. Celestino

I wanted to test out my new gorillapod and I felt like painting so I killed two birds with one stone and made this. I haven’t decided if the painting is finished yet.

Speaking Role

February 10th, 2009 by J. Celestino

So I’ve decided to make a podcast of short stories and other writings from the past few years. I thought it would b a good exercise in diction if nothing else. I’ve uploaded an introduction and the first episode. I’ve included a little player below and the rss feed and iTunes link should you want to subscribe.

2nd Chair

February 5th, 2009 by J. Celestino

I always thought it would be awful being 2nd chair at any instrument in the orchestra. Then again you don’t have to worry about messing up the solo. I woke up this morning feeling a bit like a 2nd chair violinist and wrote this for all who sometimes feel the same.

January 12th, 2009 by J. Celestino

So it’s about that time. Yep, time to redesign the site. I think this is going to be the new logo for ’09. Still working on the site concept.
