Widget

11.27.09

I made my first dashboard widget a few days ago and I’m surprised at the positive response. I made a remote control for the social media platform Boxee. If you happen to run Boxee and want to control it from your Mac laptop download it and give it a try.

I’ve already had some requests for a windows version so I will try to port the code over to a gadget soon. Or maybe a Yahoo widget as well. If you really want a linux port of some kind let me know and what widget platform would be best.

I can’t seem to get it to work. There’s no option for a server password, and it doesn’t appear to save the hostname. I enter the hostname, hit done, and when I flip the widget over again, the hostname field is empty again. Filling out all the information doesn’t have any effect on my Boxee machine running locally on the network. Perhaps you could add some support for the password (that I can’t remove in boxee, for some odd reason) and take a look into why the hostname field is clearing?

I’ll look into adding a password option. The widget currently saves the settings every time you leave the hostname or port field. So I’m not sure why it’s not saving it. I’ll try to replicate the problem. Can you tell me what version of osx your using and what actual hostname your entering is.

Just FYI, it worked controlling my XBMC on a PC from my Mac.

I’m using 10.6.2. I’ve tried using Boxee, boxee, boxee.local, and the machine’s ip address (v4)
